BAKER CITY — Crews fighting Baker County’s biggest blaze, the Fox Fire at the eastern edge of the county, are focusing on the fire’s most active area along Daly and Pole creeks northeast of Sugarloaf Mountain. Elsewhere, crews made progress on containing the 79,000-acre blaze, with containment increasing from 46% on Tuesday to 61% Wednesday morning. The added containment, which reflects control lines that are stabilized, is on the west side of the fire in the Sisley Creek area, and on the north near Quicksand Creek. Engines will continue patrolling in the area for another day, according to an update from the team managing the Fox, Bob Creek and Powder River fires. The Powder River Fire, which started July 16 about 5 miles west of Richland, is 96% contained at 21,088 acres.
