A London man who killed his neighbour’s fish says he was driven to breaking point by the sound of the pond’s water pump.
76-year-old Gerry Duffy, of North London, climbed into his neighbour’s garden, where he damaged the pond’s pump and pipework before pouring motor oil and detergent into the water, killing the fish that lived there.
This came after a long-running dispute with his neighbour over the loud sound produced by the pump, which he says kept him up at night.
The prosecution also told the court Duffy had previously warned his neighbour that “if you didn’t deal with it, I would.”
Duffy pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal damage and one count of unlawfully destroying fish.
