A surgeon in the UK has been struck off after a medical tribunal found he incorrectly connected a patient’s organs during emergency surgery, creating what an expert described as a procedure “not compatible with life.” Dr Yasser Adly Abdel Rahman was erased from the medical register following a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing into the 2020 operation at Royal Oldham Hospital. The tribunal found he made multiple serious surgical errors, failed to respond to clear warning signs during the patient’s recovery, and later acted dishonestly over a separate employment matter. During the operation, Dr Abdel Rahman incorrectly connected the patient’s stomach and small bowel before creating a second connection, forming a closed loop that prevented food from passing through the digestive system properly. Concluding the case, the tribunal ordered that Dr Abdel Rahman’s name be erased from the medical register, meaning he can no longer practise medicine in the UK.
