The New World screwworm blowfly lays eggs in wounds and body openings. Traps fill with the abundant secondary screwworm, making it difficult to detect the more harmful New World screwworm. The secondary screwworm, pictured here, is related to the New World screwworm. CSU scientists are working to uncover the differences between the two blowflies to better control the New World screwworm. “We have to have other ways to manage this fly, and this project provides a way that we can decrease New World screwworm fly populations.”
