A national of Côte d’Ivoire was indicted in a $14 million fraud scheme in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Koffi Dongo Parfait Teya, 30, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and unauthorized use of an access device.
The three-count indictment alleges that Teya and associates utilized an email phishing scheme to target travel agencies with deceptive emails.
The emails included links to fake websites that closely resembled the real reservation company’s login page.
In total, the scheme caused about $14 million in losses to approximately 430 travel agencies.
