Ingushetia’s spending has dropped more than any other region in Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the independent media outlet Agentstvo reported, citing official data. Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has further exacerbated preexisting economic difficulties across the country, increasing a shortage of male workers and disproportionately tilting the economy towards defence-related industries. Even as education spending increased across much of Russia, Ingushetia, along with Chechnya, Daghestan, and several other republics, saw a decline in education-related expenditures. The economic structure of the region remains limited: industrial production is poorly developed, while a significant share of employment is concentrated in the public sector and services. Despite high levels of poverty and unemployment, Ingushetia remains one of the youngest regions in Russia in terms of population age structure.
