MÁV is slowing trains and using paint to protect rails from the heat, Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday. He highlighted that extreme heat places serious strain on railway tracks and can, in extreme cases, even lead to rail breaks. The use of heat-protective white paint on the Pécs railway line has yielded encouraging results, with measurements showing that this solution reduced rail temperatures by 3–7 degrees Celsius. In addition, the cabinets housing level crossing equipment are being fitted with a special casing to reduce heat build-up caused by solar radiation.
