‘The Mummy’ posters axed from London tubes after watchdog rules imagery “distressing”Poster advertisements for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy have been banned from the London underground after the UK Advertising Standards Authority ruled in favour of a formal complaint.
The ASA decided that the frightening image on the poster advertising the latest horror in The Mummy universe breached its code by presenting an image that gave “a realistic impression of a dead child”.
Originally, the ASA investigated four separate issues stemming from several complaints about the advertisements; one complaint was upheld, while the other three were rejected.
On August 5th, a statement revealed that “the ASA received 30 complaints, many of whom believed the ads were distressing for children and adults.”
One of the other rejected complaints pertained to the design’s apparent trivialisation of child loss or ongoing global conflicts.
