The bridge provides an important link between Newton Poppleford and Harpford and also forms part of the East Devon Way. According to the consultation information, the river banks around the existing Redbridge have suffered major erosion, with campaigns calling for a replacement bridge continuing for several years. Devon County Council is now consulting on its proposals before submitting a planning application for the replacement, which it hopes to do in September. A drop-in consultation event will take place on Wednesday, August 12, from 9.30am until 12.30pm, at the Pavilion, Back Lane, Newton Poppleford, EX10 0EZ. Newton Poppleford and Harpford Parish Council is hosting the event.
