Former Middle Tennessee State University baseball head coach Jim Toman died Tuesday morning from brain cancer at age 64. Toman, who coached the Blue Raiders from 2018-2022, fought a two-year battle after being diagnosed in 2025. Toman led Middle Tennessee to two consecutive Conference USA tournaments with five all-conference players. The 22nd head coach in Blue Raiders’ history resigned from MTSU after being charged with suspicion of driving under the influence in August 2022. Prior to his stint at MTSU, Toman spent two seasons as an assistant coach at College of Charleston and served as coach at Conference USA rival Liberty from 2008 to 2016, being named Big South Coach of the Year in 2014.
