The Devon swimmers- Nik Haynes, Olly White, Ross Szender and Adam Tapp- will tackle the crossing in a medley order, each specialising in a different stroke: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Their goal is to break the existing world record of 11 hours and 29 minutes. "We have tried to simulate crossing by swimming for an hour then waiting for three hours, then getting back in again." "But we have the speed in our team to break the record so long as the weather is on our side." The swimmers are covering around £6,000 of the cost of the attempt themselves, ensuring that all donations go directly to Hospiscare.
