Police unveil live facial recognition van to help track wanted suspects
['Lewis Clarke']
Midweek Herald | News
The force's first deployment of its live facial recognition (LFR) van will take place in Newquay from Thursday, August 6 until Saturday, August 8, before the technology is used across Devon and Cornwall to support future policing operations.
The technology measures a person's facial features and compares that mathematical representation with images held on the watchlist.
"People may have concerns about Live Facial Recognition technology, so we are committed to being open about where we are using it, when it is used and the safeguards that are in place to ensure it is used in a transparent and proportionate way.
"The use of live facial recognition has been tried and tested elsewhere, and I am pleased to see our communities here in Devon and Cornwall benefiting from this technology."
Further information and frequently asked questions about live facial recognition are available on the Devon and Cornwall Police website.
