Georgia Schools Change Device RulesDALTON, GA. (WDEF) – As students return to school across Georgia, many are adjusting to new rules on how personal technology can be used during the school day. Georgia’s Distraction-Free Education Act requires public school districts to prohibit students in kindergarten through eighth grade from accessing personal electronic devices during the school day. School districts were required to create policies explaining how devices are stored, how violations are handled, and how parents can communicate with students during the school day. At Dalton Public Schools, students still use technology as part of learning through the district’s one-to-one program. The statewide restrictions apply to personal devices, not school-provided technology used for classroom instruction.
