Their aim is to establish the principle of adding a residential development onto the agricultural site, before submitting a more detailed application. Surface water flooding is already an issue on Church Cove Road, the council noted, and any development could worsen drainage problems. Church Cove Road is the only route to the RNLI Lizard Lifeboat Station, and the parish council stressed that this must remain clear for 24-hour access by crew and emergency services. "There would be an unacceptable impact on highway safety if additional housing exited onto this narrow section of Church Cove Road," it added. So far, 39 public objections have been submitted to Cornwall Council, echoing the concerns of the parish council.
