The event, the first in this year’s CAST-Off programme, was held in the walled garden at Penrose and saw 469 participants take part in a range of creative and science-based activities. Organised by CAST, the programme encourages children to explore, create, and play through a variety of hands-on experiences. Dominick Allen of Discovering 42, a science organisation based in Bodmin, led the water engineering activities, which were especially popular. Children worked together to pump water uphill and launch water rockets – plastic bottles half-filled with water and propelled using a bicycle pump. CAST said that similar activities using wood, clay, and water will be part of every session, with the water engineering setup expanding throughout the month.
