Eating just one avocado a day may modestly improve heart health in adults with obesity by lowering harmful cholesterol-carrying particles, according to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. Researchers from Penn State found that daily avocado consumption reduced the concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles in the blood. A higher number of LDL particles, particularly smaller ones, increases the likelihood of plaque building up inside arteries. The study analyzed data from 786 adults enrolled in the six-month Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial. ; Effect of incorporating 1 avocado per day on lipoprotein particle concentrations compared to habitual intake in adults with abdominal obesity: An ancillary study of the Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial, a randomized controlled trial.
