An inquest, held at County Hall, Ruthin on Wednesday (August 5), heard that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided not to pursue criminal proceedings arising from Mr Davies’ death. He developed post-traumatic epilepsy consequently, while Mr Sly was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Coroner John Gittins said the CPS considered whether to press criminal charges in connection with Mr Davies’ death, but decided not to in June. His view was that Mr Davies “would not have died when he did had he not been previously assaulted”. Likewise, neuropathologist Dr Daniel du Plessis concluded: “It would be reasonable to attribute Mr Davies’ epilepsy to his old traumatic brain injuries.”
