GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks Public Works director Sharon Lipsh has heard the rumors over the years, including this one: "It doesn't get recycled anyway." "I can tell you with 100% certainty that your recycling does not end up at the city of Grand Forks landfill, and I believe that it actually does get recycled." After waste is set out for pickup, the city contracts with Waste Management to haul it to a sorting facility outside Grand Forks. The city works with the institutions to provide proper receptacles, create city recycling accounts and facilitate contact with WM. From 2011-2025, PW reports that recycling tonnage from Grand Forks increased from 2,469 to 4,766.
