Viewpoint: When someone is in crisis, the right response matters

For many years, law enforcement became the default response simply because we were the ones available 24 hours a day.
But a behavioral health crisis is not always a criminal matter.
Alluma is one of Minnesota's certified community behavioral health clinics, providing immediate access to mental health and addiction care regardless of a person's ability to pay.
Through Alluma’s mobile crisis response program, our deputies can call upon behavioral health professionals when someone needs clinical expertise as well as — or instead of — a law enforcement response.
In Polk County, we're proud of the partnership we've built with Alluma because it helps us protect our communities in the way they deserve: by sending the right response at the right time.
