Indeed, the uniqueness of the Fruit Shack is arguably the root of its success. Its provision of a healthy alternative compared to the other food spots on Barry Island distinguishes the business from other food establishments, which typically sell traditional seaside food. The Fruit Shack’s owners, a local couple from Barry, were keen to bring a distinctive trade to Barry Island. Along with the Fruit Shack, they also own the Umpa Lumpa Sweet Shop in Penarth, which they acquired in May 2024.
