Later in her presentation, Hartig asserted that the "United States’ long and violent racial history continues to be present in our reckoning, if you will."
However, in her presentation to UCLA, she asserted that "history as a practice … is for me a prime tool of social justice."
Her caption said the photo was from a Black Lives Matter protest in Washington, D.C., in 2020.
Hartig also praised an anti-ICE organization called "Tsuru for Solidarity" as a "truly remarkable group," highlighting its collaboration with the Black Lives Matter movement.
