The Lucy Watts Memorial Playground at South Benfleet Playing Fields was officially opened by the mayor of Castle Point, councillor Kate Knott, on Monday. The playground has been named in memory of Lucy Watts MBE, a respected disability rights campaigner from the area who dedicated her life to improving opportunities and breaking down barriers for disabled people. Facilities include a wheelchair-accessible carousel, wheelchair seesaw, inclusive swings, accessible play towers, a large in-ground trampoline, sensory pathways and musical play equipment.
