Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed officers were called to the road between Llangadfan and Mallwyd on Saturday, August 1, following reports of an emergency involving the driver of a van. The A458 was closed in both directions for several hours while emergency services attended the scene. A spokesperson for the police force said: "Dyfed-Powys Police received a report on Saturday, August 1, of a medical emergency for the male driver of a van on the A458 between Llangadfan and Mallwyd. "Sadly, despite best efforts from passers-by, and emergency services at the scene, the driver of the vehicle sadly passed away at the scene." Earlier on Saturday, Traffic Wales North and Mid Wales urged motorists to avoid the area following the closure.
