New DNA research reveals human, microbial, plant and animal traces on the Shroud of Turin, offering new insights into its biological history. A team led by Gianni Barcaccia analyzed genetic material from official Shroud samples collected nearly 50 years ago. Human DNA Shows Repeated Handling of the ClothThree samples produced high-confidence human DNA profiles, and all three matched the same individual. According to the study, this accumulation of biological material makes it extremely difficult to isolate a single original human genetic profile from the cloth.
