Freedom class LCSDelivery of four Multi-Mission Surface Combatant (MMSC) ships to Saudi Arabia has been delayed after technical discrepancies have been identified in the vessels being built by Fincantieri Marinette Marine in the U.S..
Deficiencies were found in the test forms used to record problems on the ships, and new technical inconsistencies were also identified.
The MMSC program fell several years behind schedule due to workforce recruitment issues, design changes requested by Saudi Arabia, and initial problems encountered in the basic design of the Freedom- class Coastal Combat Ship.
Launched in December 2025, the ship has yet to be delivered to Saudi Arabia, and the current delivery schedule for the four MMSCs remains uncertain.
With a displacement of approximately 4,000 tons, the MMSC was developed based on the Freedom-class Coastal Combat Ship used by the US Navy.
