Egglescliffe School in Stockton claimed first place in the Teesside Schools Built Environment Wonder Challenge, which is organised by the Northern Counties Builders Federation (NCBF) and Constructing Excellence North East (CENE). Catriona Lingwood, chief executive of Constructing Excellence North East, said: "At a time when we have a skills crisis, entering schools and highlighting the breadth of careers available in construction is invaluable. Egglescliffe pupils formed mini construction companies and worked to a series of deadlines as they developed their project proposals. A parallel challenge took place in the wider North East region, with Great Park Academy in Newcastle taking the top prize. Finalists in that area included Castle View Enterprise Academy, Hexham Middle School, Collingwood School and Media Arts Centre, and Valley Gardens Middle School.
