Mr Doughty has represented the Cardiff South and Penarth Constituency since 2012, after winning a by-election. Mr Doughty commented on X that he was ‘honoured to take on responsibility for our work in the Middle East and North Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan and sanctions.' The position of minister of state at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is considered a junior ministerial appointment. Mr Doughty will be working under Ed Miliband, the newly appointed foreign minister, as part of the Foreign Office’s wider team. Additionally, Mr Doughty will be tasked with managing complex British Foreign policy in South Asian countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan.
