The Scottish Government announced the launch of the self-sampling programme in March, setting out its goal of eradicating cervical cancer by 2040. "We can't stress how big a step this is in helping the fight against cervical cancer, so we really need as many eligible women to get on board as possible." HPV self-sampling is a quick and simple test that allows patients to collect their own sample using a vaginal swab. Those eligible can collect a self-sampling kit from reception at either Cumnock Surgery or Muirkirk Surgery, or arrange an appointment. Women aged 25–64 are eligible to be invited for cervical screening in Scotland.
