It recognises three decades of work through the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative, promoting infant feeding, responsive parenting, and early relationships across maternity, neonatal, and community services.
Jennifer Wilson, executive nurse director at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: "Achieving the Baby Friendly Gold Award in the same year that we celebrate 30 years of Baby Friendly care is a tremendous achievement for NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s maternity services and one that everyone involved should be incredibly proud of."
It was formally presented during a recent visit to University Hospital Crosshouse by Maree Todd, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport.
The award comes as the Ayrshire Maternity Unit marks its 20th anniversary, adding to a particularly proud year for maternity services.
The accolade reflects the ongoing contribution of midwives, neonatal nurses, health visitors, infant feeding specialists, and other staff who have supported families for generations.
