The mural is being created on the gable wall of the Castle Café on Mauchline Road, which faces onto the Burns House Museum and library- where Robert Burns lived with Jean Armour. Mauchline CARS, in joint funding with East Ayrshire Council and Historic Environment Scotland, is bringing the £15,000 project forward. The design of the mural (Image: Mauchline CARS)The aim was always for the mural to be a tribute to some kind of Mauchline's heritage, possibly including the likes of Robert Burns, Mauchline industries like boxware, Kays Curling Stones or Ballochmyle sandstone. But the design of the mural is set to depict a modern couple reading poetry, with a line from one of Burns' famous poems. The poem is about six attractive women in Mauchline at the time when Robert Burns lived there, but how his eyes were only for his wife, Jean Armour.
