The UK light commercial vehicle market grew 22.0% in July, aided by growing demand for electric vans. Large and medium-sized vans both recorded strong growth, up 29.9% to 20,842 units and 20.7% to 4,993 units respectively. Uptake of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) grew 74.1% – the best since August 2025 – to capture a record 14.7% market share. Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said the record battery electric van uptake was encouraging, proving businesses will switch if business conditions are right. “Growth in electric van registrations is welcome, but uptake still needs to accelerate if the sector is to close the gap to this year’s ZEV mandate target.
