Vermont student becomes first to attend national STEM competition

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A high school science project launched a Vermont student onto a national stage. Momin Waqar, a rising senior at South Burlington High School, has always been interested in neuroscience. He spent his junior year researching in a high school classroom and a lab at the University of Vermont. ACT-SO is a year-round achievement program that encourages academic and artistic achievement among high school students of color. Waqar says he hopes what he did in Chicago doesn’t end with him but brings other Vermont students to the national stage.
