A planning application has been submitted to New Forest District Council for a locker unit at the Ferndale Road Post Office and shop in New Milton. The proposal for the site at 36-38 Ferndale Road described the current use of the site as a convenience store. Planning documents show the locker would provide about four square metres of “non-residential floorspace” and is classed as a “other – parcel locker”, rather than a new shop in its own right. The applicant argued the locker is so small that new wildlife rules shouldn’t apply, saying the site is under 25 square metres. Its automated parcel locker concept was first rolled out by the parent group in 2009.
