New Forest District Council said proposals to build on land south of Bury Road could affect Eling's tide mill and the tranquillity of the conservation area. The concerns were flagged in a scoping opinion on the major proposals put forward by developer Bloor Homes and Barker-Mill Estates. Developers said the project would deliver affordable homes and “alternative natural recreational greenspace” to help ease pressure on the New Forest. Councillor David Harrison has previously described the site as an important open space separating Marchwood and Eling, highlighting its history of quarrying and its value for walking and cycling.
