The owner of the vacant King Alfred pub in Northam Road has tabled plans with Southampton City Council for the proposed redevelopment.
The statement said: “The overall rejuvenation of a former derelict building will allow the King Alfred building to be valued by the local residents and any passers-by who may use the gym or takeaway services or its new residents.
As a locally listed building, the King Alfred is recognised for its architectural and historic interest, meaning the council will consider impacts on its character alongside the new uses.

Meanwhile, the takeaway would open on match and event days at St Mary’s Stadium, home of Southampton FC.
