OSOGBO, Nigeria: The government of Osun State directed its legal team on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after the agency froze the state’s bank accounts. Okay News reports that Oluwole Jimi-Bada confirmed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission forwarded a ‘Post no debit’ letter to the management of First Bank where the state accounts are domiciled. Oluwole Jimi-Bada stated he received approval from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to file a lawsuit at the Federal High Court. EFCC can investigate the accounts but it can’t freeze the accounts without order of court,” Oluwole Jimi-Bada said. Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, released a statement indicating the agency was planning to freeze the accounts of top government functionaries.
