From “rapid response” to possible law: who are Georgia’s national values being protected from?

The attacker, Niko Khurtsilava, said he acted because Okriashvili had insulted Georgian national culture. A week after the attack on Okriashvili, on 30 July, another initiative group emerged to “protect national values”. Its members said the law should protect the church, sacred sites, historical heroes and national values. What could a law on national values include? By contrast, “insulting national values” is a far more ambiguous concept.
