Cumbria's water levels fall as parts of UK declare drought conditions

Haweswater and Thirlmere reservoirs were at 62.5 per cent, at the last reading, a reduction of 4.5 per cent on the week before.
Reservoir levels remain slightly above the 62.3 per cent seen in the average year and the 58.2 per cent seen during conditions last year.
Water stock at Haweswater, near Shap and Thirlmere, near Ambleside, saw lows of 44 per cent in September 2025 during the drought.
Across the region, United Utilities’ total water stock is now 66.7 per cent, down by 3.8 per cent on the week before.
Total water stock is also 4.8 per cent lower than the 71.5 per cent seen in the average year.
