Colchester Council’s street care and safety team gathered 2,470kg of waste during three nights of intensive roadside cleaning in July, targeting sections of the A12 using planned overnight road closures to minimise disruption and maximise safety for workers. The waste collected included litter, fly-tipped items, tyres, abandoned roadwork signs, and general debris from passing vehicles. The council said these overnight clean-ups form part of its ongoing efforts to maintain clean and safe spaces throughout Colchester. Members of the public are encouraged to support the cause by reporting fly-tipping and environmental issues through the council’s website. Those interested in volunteering can also join the council’s network of more than 1,000 ‘Litter Warriors’ who regularly help to pick up rubbish in their neighbourhoods.
