Sustainable forestry investments are projected to generate P38 trillion in production value from 2027 to 2052, specifically from agroforestry and tree plantation projects. The DENR said the Forest Management Bureau has identified about 1.18 million hectares of potential investable areas that can be developed through Sustainable Forest Land Management Agreements. Potential investment areas are located in all regions except for the National Capital Region, with the largest area found in the Eastern Visayas at 196,083.78 hectares. It also prohibits investment projects that are incompatible with sustainable forest management such as sanitary landfills and housing or subdivision developments within forest land. Environment Secretary Juan Miguel T. Cuna said the new policy would open suitable forest areas to responsible and climate-smart investment aimed at creating more jobs, generating income, and advancing local enterprise.
