Middle school students in the Massapequa School District participated in the district’s Summer Recreation Teen Center program from June 30 through July 31 at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus. The program, open to students entering grades 6-8, offered daily activities supervised by a director, certified teachers and college assistants. Unlike the elementary program, the teen center allowed students to choose from a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, games, movies, and indoor and outdoor sports. Participants also took part in weekly themed events, including milkshake Mondays, snack shack Tuesdays and pizza Fridays. The Teen Center averaged just over 100 participants each week, with enrollment reaching a high of 130 students.
