Shahjalal Mosque in Oldham has submitted a full planning application to convert and extend 31 Stuart Street, a neighbouring terraced house, to create space for female worshippers. If approved, the changes would provide a dedicated prayer hall, washrooms, and kitchen facilities for women and girls who currently share limited space with male congregants. The mosque at 33–37 Stuart Street already delivers daily prayers, Friday congregational prayers (jummah), children's religious education, and other community activities. Planning documents note that 80 per cent of worshippers travel to the mosque on foot, minimising the impact on parking and traffic. However, ground-floor facilities, handrails, and an accessible WC will be included, and mosque volunteers will offer assistance to those with mobility needs.
