Sysco, the nation's largest food distributor, reaffirmed Tuesday that it stopped buying iceberg lettuce from Mexico as federal health officials continue investigating a multistate cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to the product, the company's CEO said.
The outbreak has been linked to iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico through Taylor Farms de Mexico.
"We're not buying iceberg lettuce from them, and we're not buying it from Mexico," Hourican said in an interview with Reuters.
Taylor Farms' U.S. business voluntarily recalled certain iceberg lettuce products sold under the Taylor Fresh Foods and Marketside brands.
"Taylor Farms is the largest producer — they're the biggest — and if we're not able to buy from them, we can easily go elsewhere," Hourican said.
