Dominican women believe a lot of things about the way their bodies work that can make you shake your head in wonder and frustration. For the same reason that the DR has one of the highest C-section rates in the world, it has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates. They believe that if a menstruating woman touches a plant, it will die. They believe that if a pregnant woman steps over her husband, she will transfer morning sickness to him. But I am a highly educated non-Dominican woman who delayed childbearing for many years and would never have considered anything except breastfeeding.......
