Following the referendum, the school board asked the county commission to approve a $60 million bond so construction projects could begin sooner. The school district later filed a lawsuit, arguing that state law requires the commission to approve the bond and that delaying the process could increase the overall cost of the projects. Although the commission ultimately approved the bond, several commissioners expressed concerns about the lawsuit and the bonding process. District 1 Commissioner Jeff Long said he was disappointed the school district chose to file a lawsuit before giving the commission more time to address the issue. Despite the commission’s approval of the bond, the lawsuit remains active.
