All areas in the North East, except Northumberland, had lower mortgage payments than rent, with an average mortgage of £699 per month.
Blaenau Gwent, alongside Hartlepool and Kingston upon Hull, was highlighted as offering some of the best value for those looking to get onto the property ladder.
