The Avon Social Club on Avon Road, Charminster, is inviting the local community to join in the celebrations beginning on Friday, August 7, featuring live entertainment from the Top of the Pops Showband. The official centenary celebration will take place on Sunday, August 9, with a Garden Fête from 2pm. The Avon Social Club holds a significant place in entertainment history, as it was the venue where legendary comedian Tony Hancock gave his first professional performance. A spokesperson for the club said: "For the past 100 years, the Avon Social Club has been at the heart of the Charminster community, welcoming generations of local people."
