An objection to the plans was raised by the Bournemouth Town Council about existing issues with antisocial behaviour and street drinking, concerned that this licence could worsen these problems. At a licensing meeting on August 5, members of the committee heard from Savers’ regional manager, Mike Morgan, and Bournemouth central, Westbourne, and West Cliff town councillor, Michael Labidi. Mike Morgan told members there are 320 Savers stores nationally that are selling alcohol. “I and many other members of the Bournemouth Town Council planning and licensing committee had a deep concern about what is going on in Bournemouth town centre, and I do think this licence is going to exacerbate the issue.” The licensing committee will decide whether or not to grant the application in private.
