Boston's park system ranks 12th in the US. The cost of inequitable park access is measured not only in health or economic outcomes, but in the everyday experiences that shape quality of life. The Boston Parks and Recreation Department's operating budget for fiscal year 2026 represents approximately 0.77% of the City's $4.8 billion total operating budget. The newly renovated Chittick Elementary Community Schoolyard in Hyde Park was designed to boost Boston’s climate resilience while providing students and residents with a high-quality park. We’ve partnered with Boston Public Schools, Boston Housing Authority, Boston Parks and Recreation and local community groups to open eight park, trail and community schoolyard projects over the next two years.
