The export of nearly 60 tonnes of green coffee from Indonesia to Kuwait has been announced, as part of the origin nation’s desire to open the door to more business in the Middle East. Green coffee exporter Indonesia Specialty Coffee (ISC) will ship three 20-foot containers carrying 57.6 tonnes of 82.75 scored specialty Royal Gayo Arabica from Aceh Gayo. It also says it wants to transition to holding stock in Kuwait, or elsewhere in the Gulf, within the next one to three years. Traditionally, countries in the Middle East have largely sourced their coffee from Ethiopia, Brazil and Vietnam, with smaller amounts sourced from origins including Colombia, India, and Uganda. According to The Observatory of Economic Complexity, the top destination for Indonesian coffee in 2024 was the United States, where it exported a value of US$302 million.
